Breaking Up Isn’t About You

Why you can’t expect your date to give you closure.

Let’s be honest. Not every attempt at dating is successful. It’s a common understanding that meeting someone new doesn’t necessarily translate into an official relationship. It’s just how it is, and most of the time, flirting, casually dating, and dating doesn’t lead anywhere.

And that’s perfectly fine.

On the flip side, however, these casual relationships have breakups too. And letting go of these is sometimes much harder than anticipated. Unfortunately, I had to realize that myself. Repeatedly.

It’s all about the right dating mindset

But why did it bother me that exciting men were leaving my life one after the other? We all know that dating is a game of chance, yet still, we expect it to be easier. We download Tinder in hopes of some miracle to happen, yet we only meet and kiss frogs, and the supposed prince among them stands us up. What we forget are mainly two things.

First, looking for potential romantic partners is an act of self-interest. Second, we might want to reconsider our mindset.
