I Don’t Care For Your Stats.
There is nothing more impersonal than talking about how to make money online.
It’s shocking how many people provide generic and unsolicited writing advice. The more I read, the more articles of people telling me how to become more successful come up in my feed. I am fed up with this type of content. Much to my surprise, some of the people giving advice are not as successful as I am. Furthermore, generic advice is literally nothing new.
I am not interested in copying the (supposed) success of others.
I don’t want to have your level of success. Heck, I don’t even think success is a good metric for writing online. Yes, I write every day — but why should anyone care, and how does this make me a better writer? This is not advice, no type of flexing, but something I happen to do to make sense of the world around me. It’s a way to sort experiences and feelings and put them into perspective — it’s my thing; not everybody has to do that. In my opinion, great writing is about being approachable, personal, and vulnerable. And some great writers happen to have great advice on being successful — but to them, it’s about great writing, not making a lot of money with mediocre writing.
